Tips for Healthy Hair Growth

Tips For Healthy Hair Grow

Fun Fact: You’re born with all the hair follicles you’ll ever have!

Genetics tend to play a role in maintaining healthy hair growth. However, maintaining your hair is important to your over health and well-being because it is one of the first aspects that others may notice about you.  These care tips may keep the hair from getting weaker at the end of each hair growth cycle.

Scalp Massage

A scalp massage can help promote relaxation and relieve stress. A scalp massage stimulates the hair follicles and may strengthen the hair strands. Indulging in a scalp massage helps increase blood flow to your scalp, enhance the strength of your roots, and help nutrients get to your follicle faster. You can give yourself a scalp massage with dry hair, but adding a nutrient-rich oil to the mix will only double the benefits.

Brush your Hair

Be gentle with your hair while detangling the knots. Harshly brushing your hair can cause more damage than help your hair. Brushing your hair helps promote hair health and shine, scalp stimulation, and loose hair removal. Hair care experts recommend brushing your hair twice a day, morning and night, to help distribute your scalp’s natural oils through your hair.

Important Nutrients for Hair Growth

If you want healthy, luscious hair, it’s important to maintain an overall nutritious diet. Vitamins and minerals occurring naturally in foods are easy for your body to utilize, and they’ll naturally deliver all the nutrients your body needs. Healthy fats are essential to hair health since our bodies can’t produce omega-3 fatty acids. Great food sources of omega-3 include salmon, tuna, flaxseed, walnuts, and plant oils such as soybean and canola oil.

Foods To Avoid

Simple Carbohydrates: Simple Carbohydrates are found in high-sugar foods like white flour, bread, ice cream, biscuits, and cakes. These foods may also cause stress, leading to hair loss. Start a diet rich in complex carbohydrates like whole grains and beans.

Sweet Cereals: These cereals have a high glycemic index and spike blood sugar levels. They contain artificial coloring agents that may cause hair thinning.

Greasy Foods: Fried, greasy foods add to your waistline and may also lead to hair loss.

Foods To Eat

Eggs, Dairy, And Lentils: The protein and biotin in these foods may stimulate hair growth.

Legumes, Seeds, Nuts, And Oysters: The zinc in these foods may boost hair growth. Zinc deficiency has been associated with hair loss.

Omega-3: Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D which may boost hair health

Avoid Heat

The heat from curling irons, hair dryers, and straighteners can damage your hair and cause breakage. Decreasing the temperature of heated styling tools can help reduce hair damage. Simply using heat does not automatically mean that your hair is or will become damaged.  In most cases, healthy hair will only experience heat damage with excessive use of heat or using heat appliances at temperatures of 450F or more.
